My 3 year old has been on this "art kick" where he wants to create and make art all day, every day. So I found this neat little project worth sharing. :) All you need is 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 1/2 cup of water. We are making "salt-dough" here.
Mix it until everything is well blended. Then basically if the mixture is too sticky add a bit more flour and if it is too dry add a bit more water. I only had to add a tiny bit of flour to ours. Then just let the kids knead away for a while. It's fun for them all on it's own!
(Don't mind his spaghetti-o face lol)
I then separated it into 2 balls so we could do both Jakobi and Jaxon's little handprints. I pressed it into a bowl and peeled it off so I could get the smooth side to imprint on.
Jakobi did his own but I had to redo Jaxon's a couple of times, he just wanted to squeeze it every time I stuck his little hand in the dough :)
If you are planning on hanging these, make holes for ribbons in advance! I made one on each side for easy hanging. Then put them in the oven at 200F, I wouldn't put them in for any higher temp because I believe they will rise and we don't want that. The thicker you make these the longer you will need to leave them in there to dry out. I left mine in the oven for about 4 hours but they were pretty thick and I also flipped them over towards the end.
After they are all done and cooled off then the kiddos get to have even more fun by painting them. Jakobi wanted his to look like a sun so I got some yellow paint and I got to pick out Jaxon's color ;) since he couldn't. Jakobi did a swell job painting these though.
I then just added the ribbons and their names and they are ready to hang!
Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
